And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; …and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them. Genesis 26:18
There has been much talk and whining about the fallen standards of Christianity and about how our faith has become so powerless and nothing more than a relic of the fiery faith of our fathers. We need not look any farther to see the reason for this- sloth! Somehow those of us who became heirs of the refreshing wells of the gospel fell into a lazy lifestyle and stopped digging the wells of prayer, of purity and of passion for souls. We stopped persevering, taking hold only of the comforts of the gospel while renouncing its cross. Our faith got reduced to just what to eat and what to wear, it was no longer about pleasing God. In the end we lost both: the true comforts of the gospel and its triumphing cross. Christianity has now become a byword of mockery and ridicule. Let an army rise up! An army of men and women who will dare to dig again the wells of the fathers of the faith, men and women who will persevere in purity, pray without ceasing and preach the gospel without holding back. Then we will find the springing wells of water that our fathers found and we will be partakers of the revivals that characterised their lives and ministries.
